Churches

Alexandrapol-Gyumri has been famous not only for its craftsmen, men of arts, and cultural values but also for its churches. People used to refer to Gyumri as “The Town of Seven Churches”. The local people have a special devotion to these churches. In his famous song “Eyed the Wits” bard Jivani characterized the love of the Gyumretsis towards their churches. In fact, seven churches were built in Gyumri, among them four Armenian Apostolic churches, a Russian, a Greek and Catholic churches. Each of these have their own story, unique structural elements, and importance to the community.
