Throughout the centuries Gyumri is renowned city of crafts and arts, where theater played big role in shaping the cultural life of the city. The first ever opera “Anush” staged by Armen Tigranyan was performed in Gyumri’s old theatre located in the central park. The modern Gyumri drama theatre, named after Vardan Ajemyan, renowned Armenian theater director and actor, is located on Sayat Nova Avenue. With its large courtyard and statues of Gyumri poets and actors it composes the Gyumri’s theater square. The tall trees make it even more attractive and enjoyable on sunny weather. Keep walking along the avenue to the north and you will see Academy of Fine Art and the Independence Square.
