Gyumri people are what make the city real. And the city itself loves to honor its citizens. Since the ancient times Gyumri was a birthplace to outstanding artists, poets, musicians, composers and sculptors. One of the most renowned Armenian actors of all times, Mher Mkrtchyan was born here. Gyumri is also a mother city to famous Armenian poets such as Avetiq Isahakyan and Hovhannes Shiraz. This area includes the three home museums of those honorary citizens. Besides the museums you can also visit the ceramics production store and see the artists during work process. The ceramics school is also located in a historical building preserved from Alexandrapol times. Continue walking along Gorki Street and you will appear at the crossroad of Gorki and Shahumyan streets. You will see the street name sign as Varpetats for that part of Shahumyan Street. Varpetats or Varpetneri means belonging to the Masters-The Street of Masters. This is where you meet can 3 greatest masters of Gyumri of all times. The three house museums of Hovhannes Shiraz, Mher Mkrtchyan and Avetiq Isahakyan. For this reason a decision was made to rename that part of Shahumyan street and into Varpetats street.
